The Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung (Hypo Cultural Foundation) is one of Germany’s leading exhibition venues and therefore an important part of Munich’s cultural life.
Each year, the 1200 square-metre space hosts three major exhibitions. As it does not have a permanent exhibition of its own, there is almost no end to topics and themes covered by the centre:
Showcasing art and culture from across the globe and covering painting, sculpture, graphic design, photography, arts and crafts, and design. In terms of time, its exhibitions range from ancient to the modern day.
In 2001, the Kunsthalle moved into its current premises right in the heart of the city at a complex known as the “Fünf Höfe”, which was designed by renowned Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron.
Good to know: Munich Card holders are entitled to a reduced admission fee. If one owns the Munich City Pass, the entrance is free of charge. In addition, the Kunsthalle offers a 50 per cent discount on all admission prices every Tuesday, even on tickets already reduced for students or senior citizens.
