A very popular day trip takes you in the footsteps of King Ludwig II to the royal castles Neuschwanstein & Linderhof. Today, around 1.4 million people from all over the world come to the Allgäu every year to visit the magnificent dream world of the shy monarch. You can experience a touch of Versailles on the day trip "Herrenchiemsee Castle and Fraueninsel" to the largest lake in Bavaria. The famous Herrenchiemsee Palace is the last and most magnificent building of the fairytale king Ludwig II.
The Fünfseenland is located south-west of Munich and comprises the area around the famous Starnberger See, Ammersee, Wörthsee, Pilsensee and Weßlinger See. On a day trip, experience the hilly moraine landscape with its embedded lakes and ponds, cut by glaciers of the Ice Age. A popular holiday, bathing and travel destination with many sights awaits you. The Starnberger See also offers the possibility to walk in "Sisi's footsteps", the former empress of Austria, who spent her childhood in the castle of Possenhofen.
The Berchtesgadener Land with its dreamlike Königssee (lake) is a stunning backdrop for a day trip – even if a historically dark shadow lies over the landscape: On the Obersalzberg, those interested in history have the opportunity to visit the NS Documentation Centre. Another possibility would be a boat trip on Königssee and a visit to the baroque pilgrimage chapel St. Bartholomä with its famous onion domes on the peninsula of the same name.
Discover the historical Old Town on a trip to Nuremberg, visit the Künstlerhaus of the painter Albrecht Dürer and venture a deep insight into the era of German post-war history. A special highlight is the day trip to the Romantic Road: in the heart of Bavarian Swabia on the Romantic Road, the city of Harburg lies at the foot of an impressive medieval castle complex. The town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber with its winding alleys and beautiful half-timbered buildings also enchants visitors at first sight. Alternatively, you can take a trip to the UNESCO World Heritage Old Town of Regensburg with its narrow alleys, its patrician towers and the princely castle.
The day trip takes you high above the beautiful city of Garmisch-Partenkirchen to the 2,962m high Zugspitze, the highest mountain in Germany. Enjoy a breathtaking 360° panoramic view of the mountain landscape in Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland after the cable car ride. A visit to the famous Mozart city of Salzburg and the Salzkammergut with its breathtaking mountains and lakes is also easily possible in one day and promises lasting impressions.
We are happy to offer different themes for the excursions: Walk in the footsteps of King Ludwig II or Sisi, experience the Middle Ages in Rothenburg or learn more about rural exodus, agriculture or industrialisation. If you do not have your own bus, you can book one through us (prices on request). Our tour guides will also accompany your groups for lunch or coffee and cake in the afternoon. The fees vary depending on the destination. Please note that Munich Tourism does not make reservations, e.g. in castles or restaurants.
